Ursa Flew Inside the Bear
They moved through the air without the resistance of air. Maybe they moved through a hologram, a three-dimensional projection of the sky. The bear flew, and Ursa crouched inside Her cells. A little girl sat by a silver maple. Once a straight and lovely tree, now it was pale and twisted. Suckers crowded it. The girl sat on the grass with her head down. Ursa and the bear grabbed her, threw her on their back, and flew. Another little girl called a tiny “oh no” from a tangle of brambles. Ursa and the bear clawed a path through the thorn bushes to where the girl sat. They rescued her, too. Daylight shone on her skin. They flew on. Ursa-in-the-bear raced through the not-air and found a boy floating in the sky. They grabbed his shirttail in their teeth and dragged him down to earth. They flew. The bear spotted an underground cave, and dove through the rock. The rock stripped Ursa out of Her cells, leaving him standing wet, sweaty, and disheveled. Ursa Flew Inside the Bear
