Ursa Crouched in a Cave
_____
Inside was another. A smaller cave, with a little mirror hanging in the air above the opening, led into a dark tunnel. Ursa hesitated. He saw a polar bear gritting its teeth in the mirror. Ursa laughed at the cartoonish face. Then he felt a nudge from behind. A real bear waited there, a big brown She-bear who nosed Ursa into the cave. Ursa crawled in the small cave while the She-bear kept roughly pushing in, or out. They came to a wide place and Ursa turned. What next? The bear attacked, biting at Ursa’s middle and chewing and biting and tearing until Ursa was in two pieces. Then the She-bear ate the body. Ursa made an O with his mouth while being eaten. Soon he was inside the bear. But not in the belly. It felt more like he had been absorbed into all the cells. Ursa looked out of Her eyes. The cave was both dark and light. The She-bear coiled Her haunches, sprang through the rock, and flew. Ursa Crouched in a Cave
