Ursa Saw Horses and Elephants
They filled the hills along the road. First a group of horses, then a group of elephants, then horses again. Ursa drove fast but still he looked. Each time he looked, a group was rearing up in unison. They had their mouths open. The animals were speaking, but the car windows were closed. Legs parted the air making a space for their voices to carry, but the sound stopped dead at the window glass. Horses all rearing, shouting, their hooves caressing the air: Ursa! Elephants up on their hind legs, flourishing their trunks: Yes, you! Horses. Elephants. Earthworms too. Ursa opened his mouth to say hello, but nothing came out. Ursa Saw Horses and Elephants
